Many people are interested in cosmetic dentistry. In fact, the demand for cosmetic dentistry has steadily risen in recent years and is expected to continue to do so. Countless individuals recognize that transforming the appearance of their teeth could bolster their confidence and make others perceive them as being younger and more successful. Are you thinking about undergoing a smile makeover? If so, you have much to look forward to. However, before you embark on your cosmetic dentistry journey, there are some steps you can take to contribute to a successful treatment process.

Consider What You Want

Saying that you want to improve the appearance of your teeth is a general statement. Your dentist will be better able to help you if you have some specific ideas about what you want your smile makeover to accomplish. Here are some questions to think about that can help you decide what your smile goals are:

  • Do you want your teeth to be dazzlingly white, natural-looking, or somewhere in between?
  • Are you hoping for a perfectly aligned smile, or do you want to maintain some slight variations in the positioning of your teeth?
  • What are your opinions on the appearance of your gumline?
  • What is your budget for your smile makeover?

You might find it beneficial to find some photos of smiles that you really like. Celebrities’ smiles, stock photos, and even images of your friends and family can all provide some inspiration. Bringing these to your dentist can help you work together to create your treatment plan.

Research Different Treatments

In some cases, more than one treatment is able to provide similar results. Here are some examples:

  • Invisalign and traditional braces both effectively realign teeth. Many patients prefer Invisalign because it is more discreet.
  • Dental bonding and porcelain veneers look very similar initially. However, porcelain veneers are more resistant to stains and tend to have a much longer life expectancy.
  • Take-home and in-office teeth whitening are both great ways to get rid of dental stains. In-office whitening is faster, but some patients prefer the convenience of fighting dental stains in the comfort of their own home.

By researching the various treatments that might benefit you, you will have a better idea of what to ask your dentist about during our consultation. Once you understand the pros and cons of various procedures, you will feel more confident when you commit to the treatment plan that your dentist designs with your preferences in mind.

A smile makeover is an exciting process! By preparing well for it, you can help your dental team to produce final results that are both beautiful and well-suited to your personal preferences.
