Why Choose New Haven Dental Group for Direct Bonding?

What Is Direct Bonding?

Porcelain veneers use thin pieces of porcelain to disguise flaws in teeth, such as cracks, chips, and discoloration. Direct bonding accomplishes a similar purpose. However, instead of using porcelain, direct bonding uses a tooth-colored cosmetic resin, which is the same material that we use to fill in cavities. We shape the resin over the tooth to disguise its imperfections and bring about a whole new look for it.

How Does Direct Bonding Work?

The direct bonding process is simple, quick, and, comfortable. We begin by selecting the right shade of composite resin for your teeth; we will make sure that it matches the surrounding dentition as closely as possible. Then, we use a mild acid solution to roughen the enamel, followed by a bonding agent that will help the resin adhere to the tooth. Then, the dentist applies and shapes the resin. A special light hardens it. Finally, we polish the resin so it looks as natural as possible.

Direct bonding may be perfect for you if you have one or two teeth whose appearance you would like to improve, and if you would like to do so as quickly as possible. This procedure is usually not recommended as a way to address extensive cosmetic issues or to treat more than a few teeth at a time. Porcelain veneers may be the better option if you want your results to last for more than a decade or if you would like to completely transform your smile.

When you visit us for your consultation, we will thoroughly discuss your options with you and help you settle on one that best fits your needs, circumstances, and budget.
